While this year’s (now annual) Warrington Viking Medieval Market quite as well attended as the previous year, but traders reported the best sales ever, so evidently those who visited came specifically to spend money with us! As economic regeneration is what we’re all about, it’s good news. On top of this, the borough council representative was extremely happy and booked next year on the spot, so the five year anniversary Warrington Viking Medieval Market will be on Saturday 5th September 2015 – and plans are to go bigger yet again!
From an organizer’s point of view, everyone knew what they were doing this year. The family of traders, demonstrators and musicians at this event pulled together exceptionally well, setting the standard for all future events. What drizzle we did have hardly affected the event at all, with the Medieval ‘flash mob’ photo at the Skittles with the horse mounted knights, the lone piper playing for WW1 soldiers lost in combat at the end of Serpentyne’s set, and the renaissance street artist who joined us this year drawing Derek of South Trafford Archaeology Group in full appropriate kit (Derek now well into his 90s), all remain as enduring images of a truly magnificent event.
