Thingwall, at Bright Park in Knotty Ash (just by the Jam Butty Mines), proved to be one of the best sites we have ever staged an event on. The trees shrouded the whole site from the modern world of 2016 and the bunting which lined the barked pathway into the site itself really set the scene for all involved.
In every respect, the site completely bowled everyone over – minus the torrential rain! In fact, it was the only day it really rained through the whole of May!
The highlight of the day was probably watching 9+ people attempt to put up a gazebo in torrential rain for 90 minutes before the ladies (who else would read the instructions) realised there were missing pieces. That was when the ‘authentic’ duct tape was produced!
However, despite the setbacks in weather, we trudged on through the mud armed with cover sheets for the stalls and determination. We had a blast on a monumentally historic site. We had stalls of all kind and a huge arena in which the Knights of Failsworth battered each other – I mean, battled each other.
It showed how much of a family we have all become as stall fees were cancelled in favour of bucket donations and the basic costs of the event were covered when combined with the 300 or so visitors that attended in the afternoon, once the sun had come out.
