Where it all began:
Through the boundless mists of time rode a heroic band of champions seeking quests and knightly adventure… not exactly!
The whole idea for the VMM was actually hatched between a Market Manager and a TV Presenter with the intention of putting their ailing home town centre back on the economic map!
All those years ago, at the very first Viking Medieval Market in 2011, we actually had no idea that it was ever going to grow into the helter-skelter ride of fun and excitement that it is today, delivering superb organised trading and entertainment days to thousands of visitors every year. As years have passed, we have made it our primary aim not to neglect or overcharge our traders and clientele. We have always aimed to foster economic regeneration in these times of recession and unstable economy while still staging outstanding events that communicate history and archaeology in engaging and relevant ways to the public.
We must be getting it right as, over the last few years, the VMM series of events has grown exponentially, with the number of events in 2016 more than doubling for 2017 and the year ahead looks every bit as busy!
About the team:
Over the years, the VMM organisational and administration team has consisted of a few changing faces – and some of the same old ones too! The core team which is at each and every event is listed below, followed by a few ‘special mentions’ who have ‘gone the extra mile’ over the last season.
